Interview with Tanya Nazar

We had an interesting interview with our topper Tanya Nazar. Lets read it.

Ranks she obtained:

1)KEAM 172

2)AIIMS 1261

1) How tough is the entrance exams according to you?

Ans. For me entrance exam isn't that easy, but it can be that easy, provided you have a willing mind ready enough to work hard.

2) When did you start your entrance exam preparation? Do you think it was the correct time to start?

Ans. I started after 10th and I think that's the right time.

3) Did you take coaching? If yes, where and how has it benefitted you. If no, mention why you chose so and how did you go forward.

(Mention the benefits and disadvantages you got with or without coaching)

Ans. Yes, at Vijayagiri Public School.

Taking a coaching is really worth. It helps you to put yourself into the right track. You also gets a clear cut idea of how you are suppose to prepare for the exams.

It isn't mandatory to take one as there could be students who could make up without coaching. Talking for an average, coaching would make the task much easier.

4) Do you think NCERT is important? Why?

Ans.Yes.

NCERT is the basic for NEET. Choosing the right study material adds advantage to the preparation. The biggest benefit of the text is that majority of the questions in exam are directly fetched from NCERT or follow the same pattern. It has strong basics and concepts and mastering NCERT helps you to answer the diagram based questions too.

5) Which all books did you refer other than NCERT?

Ans. Physics: GRB

Biology:

Chemistry: MTG NEET Guide

Any other books (like magazines or previous year books):MTG magazines

6) Which subject do you think was tough for you? How did you manage it?

Ans. Physics was so tough for me and chem was the best.

I used to practice a lot questions on physics, spent more time on it. I use to keep a formula note so as to go for a quick revision.

7) How did you tackle the following subjects? Mention tips and tricks you used also.

Ans. Physics:- Physics is all about concept. Take time and understand it rather than by hearting formulas. Always remember that whatever you learn enjoy and learn. Also rewinding is as important as studying.

Chemistry:- Extract NCERT maximum. Organic is of maximum weight-age in chemistry, it would be advisable to know some more name reactions outside NCERT. Add codes so as to study all tables in text.

Biology:- Biology text must be photocopied in mind. G.K. part need not be stressed too much.

GK and English:- Read newspaper (note down what is important for us, this fixes it more into your memory)

8) The portion is vast. How did you manage to remember everything on the exam day? How did you revise?

Ans. The portion is of course very vast. I would advice to keep a formula book so that at one go everything runs through your memory. Revising the syllabus more than once adds extra benefit of memorizing it too.

9) Did you use mnemonics, stories, etc to remember stuff for exams? Can you mention a few which you used?

Ans. O O O P T A F A G V A H is a shortcut to remember the name of the 12 pairs of cranial nerves in the correct order.

CGS: * elements with negative coefficient of resistivity

* Bacterial STDs

* parts of female cockroach

CHONPKCaSMg FeMnZnBCuMoNi with Cl : Mineral nutrition

TAPCLiN : enzymes of pancreatic juice

10) Did you make a time table? If yes, can you explain how did you make it and whether you followed it. If no, why did you chose so?

Ans. Yes, I use to make timetables. At first it was totally a mess(I prepared one, I followed another). Slowly I began to stick to timetable. I think preparing short time tables are better, like for 5-6 hrs, for morning section, etc. Preparing for a whole day may make it difficult to match with our daily plans. While making timetable it would be good enough to add a mixture of subjects. Like for one hour chem, then next one hour mechanics, next maybe few genetics numerical and so on. Handling same topic for more than two hrs will slow down your brain and make you feel bored.

11) How important is to write mock exams?

Ans. Attempting mock tests make you aware about how much you are yet to move on to the target. The rank you get in these isn't important, what is important is how much you were able to reproduce out of your work. There are some students who feel depressed after writing mock test, that's not the right approach...work on your defects and try mending them. "Always try upgrading what you have rather than lamenting over what you don't."

12) How important are study breaks? What do you do in your study breaks?

Ans. )Some of us think that late night studies, continuous study hours with rest is gonna produce the best result. No, you have to give rest to your brain so that enough time is given for it to refresh. Only then we will be able to fetch contents from our memory whenever required. Study breaks are necessary for you to remember what you have put into your head. I use to sit with friends and discuss of what we have learnt, this way of sharing knowledge is much beneficial than sitting in front of books for long hours. Having leisure talks with friends will help you to get relaxed from the tight schedule.

13) Do you advise studying late at night? Should a student go sleepless in entrance exam preparation? What should be the ideal sleep time?

Ans. The sleep cycle of different students vary, some like to study late night, some early in the morning. However it is, make sure that you sleep at least for 7 hrs daily. Sleepless preparations are sheer waste, it make you sick, tired and in that way you are gonna lose 2-3 days. When you sleep sufficiently, your body and brain gets relaxed, so that you get energized for the next long hours. Poor sleep will gift you a poor memory putting all your efforts into vain (seriously).

14) What did you do on the following instances?

Ans. A month before the exams:- I use to revise the parts that were difficult for me and solve previous year papers.

A week before the exams:- I use to built in confidence in me. Tried my best not to loose hope even in the most difficult situations. Also I use to go through the numerical values and table data.

The day before the exams:- Do nothing. Sit with my short note and try remembering what I have studied. Also check all formulas are thorough or not. It is better to put your text away on the night of exam. I use to pray well too.

The exam day:- The exam day....that is the most important day of the whole year. Stay tension free...be confident in your work and God's grace.

15) Did you achieve success in your first attempt? If yes, how did you plan. If no, what was the reason behind it?

Ans. No, I succeeded in my second attempt. I was too tensed and lacked the confidence in me. I had almost prepared well, but due to my tension I lost in my first attempt.

16) (only for repeaters) Why did you choose to repeat? How hard was the decision?

Ans. No, I succeeded in my second attempt. I was too tensed and lacked the confidence in me. I had almost prepared well, but due to my tension I lost in my first attempt.

17) Mention the difficulties you faced during your entrance exam preparation. How did you overcome them? (Mention each one separately)

Ans. Memorizing the vast syllabus I tried rewinding often to make sure that whatever I have learnt is still in my mind.

18) Did you make any mistakes? What were they?

Ans. Yes, I tried to study things at a stretch, without checking whether I was able to reproduce it or not. As a result I couldn't memorize everything I learnt and this made me nervous at exams.

19) How did you maintain your composure and mind during this hectic period of entrance exam preparation?

Ans. I truly believed in God. I worked really hard to mend my weak points and kept my mind always happy and confident.

20) What advice would you like to give to aspirants?

Ans. Dear friends,

Entrance exam is not a hectic task if you have a willing mind. It is not something that only belongs to the brainies, but anyone can succeed through entrance. All you have to do is work hard, prepare confidently and always think positively. Try to find and develope not the good in you but the best in you rather than going behind the best in others. Make your dreams a reality. Let the impossible for others be possible for you.

21) What motivated you to choose this profession?

Ans. This profession is such a divine profession. Doctors gift patients that life that they beg in front of death. For them docs are God on Earth. I would love to serve the people and gift them a new life.

22) What made you motivated to prepare for the entrance exams?

Ans. You have to fight against some of the bad days of life to earn the best days. I knew some achivers who have dedicated completely to gain these best days of their life. All they had was the power to work sincerely. It motivated me. I thought if they can then why can't me.

"Great battles are won not by the mightiest one but by the one who thinks HE CAN".

All The Best

Thank you for your valuable time.
