How important is the NCERT?
I can’t stress the importance of NCERT textbooks enough, especially in the case of Biology.

Hell yeah..NCERT is inevitable. Study just NCERT and you are almost 70% done.Just refer some more books and you'll crack it.

Very important... Most of the medical ntrance exams( are based on ncert.. so it should be ur best frnd.. Evn though i think u can do without ncert physics , bio and chem cannot be left as far a medical aspirants are concerned.. Sorry bt all this is according to me..lol

I never considered NCERT important for entrances. I ignored them completely during my first attempt. Only during repeating, while attempting many questions and from teachers, I realised most of the questions are NCERT based. But it doesnt mean, questions are directed from NCERT. It will be twisted and sources also include diagrams, diagram descriptions, excercises (especially the physics NCERT excercises), tables (especially inorganic chemistry), etc which we often ignore. So, always be thorough with your NCERT. The bios of scientists in Biology textbooks are very important but the dates are not that important.
Questions also come out of NCERT. So, completely ignoring other guides or teacher's notes isn't a wise decision.

yes. almost all entrance exams are based on ncert.
ncert should be the primary resource of entrance aspirants and do reffer additional informations from guides that you like.

100 percent. It is the core material. For neet the questions may seem from outside, but it will definitely be based on ncert. You have to study ncert thorough first.

I dont just because its like a factbook. It doesnt help in concept building but sadly questions from most entrances are lifted from NCERT.Still I referred to NCERT only during the last one and a half months of entrances (Apr-May)
N.B.- I am an ISC student. We had no prescribed textbooks as well for PCMB

As far as i am concerned NCERT is the best guide for state exams. When it comes to all india level , NCERT just marks the guidelines and so along with it we should have additional references. I repeat "along with it"..-Harshit S

yes...coz the questions are direct from it

That is like asking if breathing is important for survival. You need to breathe, live , sleep , eat everything the NCERT way to be able to crack this . Everyone says so don’t they? But how many times do you take in that advice ? Let me show you how important NCERT is . This year (2016) out of the 240 questions in KEAM not a single one has been out of the text . And almost all questions are from the tables in the text ! Go through NCERT with reverence and you will tackle KEAM .
-Indu Vimal

We should have an idea about NCERT in terms of its depth and importance of theory on different chapters during the higher secondary level itself. NCERT and its solved examples and exemplar questions are very usefull. But if you dont studied NCERT before its better you should pass through important portions and doing the problems given its text.
